Rainy Days

For 20 years of my life, I allowed people to tear down my self-esteem to where it was non-existent. I was teased, criticized, talk about, and bullied to the point where I would go home and cry myself to sleep. One day while I was in the midst of my tears I said to myself, "What are all these tears for?" I was sick and tired of crying, losing sleep, and gaining weight over people who were at home living their lives without giving a second thought to the pain that they were inflicting upon me. It was then that I decided that it was time to take my life back. The journey was hard and it still is. I had gotten so low that it has taken everything I have and the strength of God to get me to a point where I like myself most of the time. Sometimes I still revert back to those days of letting others overpower me and giving in to the laziness of not speaking up for myself. It's easy to stay quiet. No one recognizes quiet people, no one expects anything from you. Once you start talking, the spotlight is on you and people can see your imperfections. I fight the urge everyday to just "fade into the background".

We are all flowers planted in God's Garden. If the sun shone all the time, we would wither and die. We need rain to nurture us and to make us grow. Treasure your rainy days for those are the days that will help you grow into the beautiful flower that God created you to be.
